Santa Cruz Island

Santa Cruz Island is a must visit. I need to come back. I've been to a few places in the last few years but Santa Cruz Island felt like an actual vacation. Maybe it was getting away from all the frequency signals bouncing around on mainland. No constant buzzing... so quiet if I listened hard enough I could hear God telling me what to do next. I recommend getting a group campsite to allow more space between other campers. Supplies would have to be carried further to get to the group campsite area but it's well worth it to avoid the possibility of loud neighbors.

Everything is pack in and pack out so we had to be cautious what we wanted to carry in. Basically our camping gear, camera gear, freeze dried foods, water and snacks for three days. Native island foxes are everywhere and try to jack your food. Giant ravens that will unzip your backpack. I have trouble staring one in the eyes. Besides crossing paths with a couple people on our hikes, it felt like we had the island to ourselves most of the time.

Just a 45 minute boat ride from Ventura, CA through Island Packers Cruises. Some lucky people will get to see dolphins and whales on the cruise over to the island. The island has no electricity or stores. Hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, and when night time came the Milky Way lit up the sky. One main thing I enjoy about getting away is not having any cellphone signal. I can put the phone away and not bother with connecting back to the Matrix. Some things I need to apply to my everyday life.
